Charging solved payment. It never solved trust.
A self-initiated EV charging app for the UK. Paying at the plug is table stakes — Octopus Electroverse solved that and stopped there. What no one has solved is whether you can trust a charger to work before you commit a route to it, and what you are meant to do with the 20–40 minutes once it does.
The problem is trust, not plugs
01 — Why this
The UK network has grown fast; the experience layer hasn't. Availability data is stale, pricing is opaque per network, and what gets called range anxiety is really information anxiety. Electroverse aggregates payment across networks and leaves that untouched. Lumen plans routes on live reliability rather than on where a plug happens to exist, and treats the charging stop itself as a designed interval instead of a progress bar — because 20–40 minutes is long enough to need a plan and short enough to resent wasting. Motion is prototyped in GSAP so the timing is real, not implied.
Aggregating payment made charging possible. It did not make it bearable. The design problem left over is a stranger’s promise that a machine forty miles away is working.
